Grants to NGO/ Institutions

We use the following process to award Scholarships

Application

Grantee  (NGO/ Educational Institutions)

If you are a non-governmental organization or an institution connected to the education sector, you can register your NGO to apply for a grant. A grantee can receive grants for multiple projects (scholarships) at any given time, provided they can highlight their ability to handle the funding size requested. A program officer will be in touch to verify details and begin the vetting process with our legal and financial teams. Applications are submitted year-round, but due to volume of applications received, review and approval times can vary.

Grant applications are usually submitted by registered NGOs and institutions (called Grantees). If you are an eligible candidate looking for a scholarship, we will connect you with a registered NGO to manage your scholarship process. You can submit your details at Apply for Scholarship.

Acceptance

After your Grantee Registration application is submitted, our program officers will review your application and contact you. More information may be required in order to vet your organisation. Additionally, the Foundation will also use this time to learn more about your organisation’s involvement in the education sector, your ability to manage and guide scholars using our approach, and your understanding of the Foundation’s goals. This phase is meant to ensure both parties have a deeper understanding of one another, and that the prospective grantee understands the priorities and goals of the Karmakar Foundation. The foundation accepts the NGO registration application to empanel your organisation as a grantee.

FUNDING

All project proposals are evaluated by a program manager and a panel of selection committee. Secondary accounting and legal due diligence checks are undertaken anytime a financial award is approved, so even if your organisation was previously approved, further checks may be required before a project is approved. All proposals are reviewed at various levels with a foundation executive making the final decision about whether to fund the proposed grant. At the end of this phase, the foundation signs a contract with the grantee with clear objectives for using funds, a milestone-based payment schedule is developed, and reporting deliverables are outlined. In most cases, the foundation pays school fees directly to the school and the child welfare support costs to the grantee.

COMMUNICATION

During the course of a project, a foundation program manager will keep in close communication to understand progress and challenges of ongoing project. This includes effective monitoring and evaluation of both the student’s progress, but also the grantees engagement with all stakeholders and provision of support. Grantees are required to submit annual reports for each project, but also may be required to submit quarterly updates. A program officer from the Foundation may request to join in with certain meetings, attend grantee board meetings, or have further engagement as necessary to ensure effective implementation and support for Foundation Scholars.
